Gomati District is well known for its lawlesness as its being run by the whim and fancies of its DM Sonal Goel, under whose tenure number of  crimes, rapes and murders only skyrocketed.

Auto and bus drivers ran their business without caring for law in this lawless district, but arrival of new SP namely Saraswati Rai has become a nighmare for these unruly drivers.

In whole Udaipur, since Monday night theroute for vehicles have been stopped and no passengers were allowed inside the vehicles.

Not only this, the drivers who wanted to run their vehicles were stopped and many have been physically assaulted.

However, it’s alleged that it was in Gomati Dist. where the plan for statewide strike was initiated.

Udaipur auto drivers are generally given relaxation for all the rules.

They neither keep any fare chart nor they abide by any laws.

In that situation suddenly, strict traffic law enforecement with the arrival of new SP has created much troubles for them.

Drivers alleged that Mobile police in Udaipur are busy in put the drivers into problems with fines.

However, talking to Ratan Das, SDPO  Udaipur over phone he said, “When accidents happen people blames that police is responsible for accidents, but when the same police impose few rules upon them then police is also blamed”. “But for the drivers profit and for the sake of their unruly activity as per wish can not be tolerated”.

Ratan Das further said, “Not only today, it was since yesterday that the unruly drivers had stopped vehicle movements in Udaipur and the common people have become the sufferer”.

“The traffic rules are not only for Tripura, but in overall India”, he added.

“Both the central Govt. and court have become strict against unruly drivers”, said SDPO.

“Das further said, “Obviously police is responsible for enforcing all rules and regulations and so till day what happened can not be bear any more”.

“Court has become also strict against the vehicle laws and all these have created much problem for them”, said Das.

However, due to the disruption, the schools, colleges and offices have been hampered to a great extent. Today, it was also CBSE exam and the students using auto or bus put in  much problem due to the unruly exercise of drivers.

CPI-M backed Labour Union gheroued Gomati SP office alleging “Police violating rules”, whereas their demands were :

  1. Police can not ask for same papers of vehicles (for which a driver has already fined), before it once produce before the court,
  2. For North Eastern state Tripura license can not be asked, as it’s a poor area,
  3. Only Xerox copies will be enough for proof,
  4. Mobile police can be sit at the same situation in various places of state,
  5. The cars which have already fined-papers, their fines would be given relaxation.
