Tripura's first flyover : problem or solution ? CPI-M Govt lacks vision, peoples suffering continue

AGARTALA, March 2 (TIWN):The Battala flyover construction has proved that communication in Tripura has become very perilous in a population of more than 5 lakhs. There are 23 sub-divisions in Tripura. Out of it, 10 sub-divisions are located South of River Haora. Geographically, South Tripura is comparatively located on the plains, while North Tripura is located on the hills. And thus, the former is more populated than the latter. The 10 sub-divisions of South Tripura leans on Battala’s Haora Bridge. Haora Bridge is a victim to traffic jams throughout the entire year. The state’s first flyover is undergoing construction from Agartala Police headquarters to Fire Brigade Chowmuhani. Another wing of the flyover would be supplemented from Battala to Paradise Chowmuhani. The total cost of this project is Rs. 2,25,000,00,00. The length of the flyover is 2.260 M.The State Government has taken no step to keep up the free alternate connectivity between Agartala and South Tripura. The distance between Paradise Chowmuhani and River Haora is only half a kilometre. A bridge should’ve been constructed to connect these two, but the State Government has not done so far.

Had this bridge been constructed, an alternate route would have come out and it would have been unnnecessary to construct a flyover. Similarly, the distance between Post Office Chowmuhani and River Haora is 700 M.

Students feel very inconvenient to attend University via Battala. Patients from South Tripura/Agartala who gets referred to ILS Hospital and GBP Hospital have to cross a lot of hurdles due to the ongoing flyover construction.

Growing bonhomie between India and Bangladesh and advent of broad-gauge railway track is increasing the population of Agartala.

If the State Government does not take any step to create an alternate route with South Tripura, the flyover would further give rise to traffic problems.

The entire flaw should be attributed to the State Government and Public Works Department (PWD)’s lack of concrete planning.
