AGARTALA, March 2 (TIWN): Tripura lower court on Tuesday sent the identified accused cum 'Manik Dey's business partner' Samir Debnath for five days of jail custody over assaulting Minister Manik Dey on February 28.

It is to be mentioned here that Tripura police on Tuesday produced the accused attacker Samir Debnath before the court on an allegation of assaulting Minister Manik Dey.

The accused is expected to be in the jail custody till March 5.

Earlier on February 29, the Tripura police have produced the accused before the court with charges of attempt to murder Minister Manik Dey. The police further demanded for remand with a purpose of interrogating the case.

It is to be mentioned here that Minister Badal Chaudhury and Manik Dey were injured when a man identified as Samir Debnath has attacked with a chair at the party office of CPI-M on February 28.

According to the police reports, Samir Debnath initially told the ministers that his father was critically ill and he needed money for his medical treatment. However, it has been found out during the interrogation hours that the claim made by the accused Samir Debnath was totally false.

Besides, a personal diary along with some photographs of Ministers and details of them were also recovered from the accused.

However, Debnath’s family is active party members of State CPI-M. 

During the incident, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and CPI-M leaders Bijan Dhar and Gautam Das were also present at the party office.

However, the accused Samir Debnath is expected to be produced before the court on March 5 next.
