AGARTALA, Feb 29 (TIWN) : Finance Minister Arun Jaitley unveiled the budget in support of farmers and the poor people and the budget excludes the facilities for tobacco businessmen.
Arun Jaitley in his Pro-Poor Budget has announced the relief for small tax payers but at the same time tax has been increased for Car & Cigarettes businessmen.
Atleast 15% tax has been increased against cigarette which may bring a lesson for rampant tobacco businessmen here in Tripura.
Reportedly, excise duty on Tobacco products up by 10 – 15 %and cigarette set to cost more.
Ganja plantation has become very prominent here in state and reportedly, people are using ganja with smokes.
Indian governments step to impose higher taxes on tobacco in its Monday morning budget is really appreciable as it may decrease the percentage of smokers. Now a days in every shops cigarette selling has become very common and more rampant in Tripura.
On the other hand for farmers Modi Govt. has brought many reliefs which may inspire the farmers to do crop and vegetable based agriculture rather than tobaccos.
Growing consumption of low-price cigarettes is an outcome of cigarette makers successfully moving some bidi smokers up the value chain. Taxing shorter cigarettes has a better public-health impact, as much of the cigarette consumption is happening at the lower end of the market.
