AGARTALA, Feb 24 (TIWN) : The condition of NH-44 once again has turned worse with the rainy reason’s arrival, due to which since last 2 days Churaibari-Lowerpoa road was totally blocked. Although Transport Dept. promised to finish the renovation work of NH-44 within the dry season, but due to the negligence of PWD and working delays, NH-44 has turned miserable. However, the condition will be further worse when the full rainy-season will arrive. After 2 day long road-blockade at Assam-Churaibari road, when the vehicles were released on Tuesday, it caused jam in traffic movement during the whole day at Churabari check post. As per eye witenesses, due to the Sale-tax department’s unnecessary harassment towards the Truck drivers coming from Assam, caused the traffic jam. According to the sources, Sale tax dept. on Tuesday started to collect fines and forced 'extra checking' of those vehicles which entered from Assam after 2 days of road-blockage. That not only killed time, but arranged long queues of trucks which blocked the NH-44 segment for the whole day.As a result, atleast 500 vehicles were paused during the whole day. Tripura’s vehicle drivers also on Tuesday were unnecessarily harassed due to the unexpected traffic jam.

Truck drivers with vegetables and crops from Assam had major brawls with the Sale tax dept. at Churaibari Check post,  but Tripura Govt officials  didn’t bother to solve the problem.

But the common people of North Tripura suffered on Tuesday due to the massive road-blockade.

It’s to be mentioned here that whereas the Executive Engineer of PWD of NH44 division, Karimganj said that the renovation work of the lowerpoa Churaibari part National Highway is underway in full swing, on the other hand the reality is far from truth.

Even after various complaints by truck drivers and passengers, Churaibari bribe collection and the condition of the Assam-Agartala National Highway has remained same.
