AGARTALA, Feb 22 (TIWN): Keeping eye on the safe conduct of the municipal election, the polling personnel’s appointed for the ensuing village committee election slated to be held on February 24 are scheduled to leave for their polling station on Tuesday.

It is to be mentioned here that all the appointed polling personnel who are given the responsibility to conduct the election are schedule to leave for the polling station on Tuesday and will supervise the arrangements at the polling station.

This decision was taken to conduct an error free election in the state.

It is to be mentioned here that Police officers and teachers of state schools who are appointed as the polling personnel’s in the VC election, all have already cast their vote through postal ballot.

The vote cast for the election will begin from Wednesday morning at the polling stations.

However, the campaigning for the village committee election will end on Monday evening as per the rules.

Apart, Central paramilitary forces are deployed to maintain strict security arrangements during VC election.

The Union home ministry has deployed 15 companies of paramilitary forces for strict security during the elections which is scheduled to be held on February 24 to 587 village committees under the Tripura tribal autonomous district council areas.

However, the central paramilitary forces, including the CRPF and BSF, would be backed by police and the Tripura State Rifles (TSR).

All the political parties have nominated their candidates to contest the election. Like the municipal election the ruling party has once again nominated new faces to fight the election in the state.

Reportedly, Polls to 587 village committees in Tripura would be held on February 24, the state election commission announced recently. The village committees, falling in areas under the politically important Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), are equivalent to gram panchayats outside the council areas.

State Election Commissioner G. Kameswara Rao notified to media that elections for the 4,597 seats would be held on February 24. Of the total seats, 4,018 are reserved for tribals, 180 for people from Scheduled Castes and 2,005 for women. Instead of Electronic Voting Machines, ballot boxes would be used for the polls. This is being done, according to the election laws of the TTAADC.
