AGARTALA, Feb 22 (TIWN): Embezzlement of funds mainly under Bisalgarh block and other blocks has lead to resentment among the common people in the state.
Day after day blocks are hit with scams, financial embezzlement.
Though CBI inquiry is demanded into the scams but no initiative is being taken to launch CBI inquiry into the scams.
A CBI inquiry was demanded into the alleged financial irregularity of Rs 17 crore in the Bishalgarh Block Development Office of Tripura in 2013 but so far no action is taken into it.
A case was also heard under the division bench of Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Subhasis Talapatra. However, the hearing for the PIL case ended on a note where the lawyers of the public prosecutor failed to answer the question of the judge.
It is to be mentioned here that demanding CBI inquiry a PIL was filed against the Bishalgarh MGNREGA scam where FIR was lodged by Bishalgarh Block Development Officer (BDO) against 12 officials including former BDO of the block –Bimal Chakraborty. Bimal was arrested last year but recently, walked out free from the judicial custody as police failed to submit charge sheet against him.
However, during the interim session of hearing the public prosecutors failed to answers to the question which reported serious embezzlement in the in the blocks.
After months of the scam came into limelight, the main accused BDO Bimal Chakraborty is yet roaming free and police is reluctant to take any action.
It is to be mentioned here that altogether 39 charge sheets are file so far and it also includes the kingpin Scamster BDO Bimal Chakraborty.
The under table relations of police and the political heads has successfully managed to hush up the massive scam. Even after almost a year police couldn’t file charge sheet.
On the one hand police claims that no action can be taken until they get orders from the HC, suspicion grows if charge sheet is being filed why there is delay in submitting the file in the court.
Reportedly, after tremendous pressure from all corners and widespread media publication on the Rs 17 crore MGNREGA scam BDO Bishalgarh RD Block Subrata Das lodged FIR against the then BDO of the block Bimal Chakraborty in Bishalgarh Police station.
Police registered a case in this issue (Case no-135/14) under section409 of IPC. The special Internal Audit Report of MGNREGA for the FY2012-13 and FY 2013-14 massive misappropriations of more than Rs 17crore was found. The special Internal Audit was done during 05/05/2014 to 30/06/2014.
