AGARTALA, Feb 22 (TIWN): Aiming to start the Kailashahar Aerodrome to facilitate the people, recently Airport Authority Director of Agartala visited the area, confirms SDM of Kailashahar on Saturday
Talking to TIWN correspondent on Saturday, Kailashahar SDM Ajit Sukla Das stated that initiatives are going on for the commencement of the Kailashahar airport.
Further, he also mentioned that recently Airport Authority Director of Agartala visited the area in the presence of SDM himself and ADM of Kailashahar.
Stressing over the initiatives taken for the commencement of the Airport, Kailashahar SDM mentioned that Airport Authority Director of Agartala has taken the reports and very soon he will send the report to New Delhi for the approval of the project.
Besides, he mentioned that sooner the authority receives the approval and the permission reports are sent to the department the renovation work will begin soon.
It is to be mentioned here that if the Kailashahar aerodrome would have been operational than people from Unakoti District could have easily get connected with the Kolkata and Guwahati including Assam and many other parts of North-eastern region as well.
It is to be mentioned here that Kailashahar Aerodrome located at the Durgapur area under Kailashahar Sub-division has turned into barren land.
The airport established in the 60th century with a small aircraft service, now is in not operational for past several years. It has been mentioned that due to lack of passengers and especially due to lack of intervention from the government the airport has been shut down and at present it has become a barren land.
It is to be mentioned here that in 2011 Airport Authority of India has visited the Kailashahar airport with an aim to reopen it, however, after passage of years no up gradation is reported in the airport rather is has become a spot for the cattle’s to graze.
According to the sources, after the visit, the AAI team had noticed that the existing runway required to be expanded to almost double its present length and all modern safety equipment needs to be installed in the airport.
It has been reported that earlier DM has submitted the Direct Project Report (DPR) with the state transport department for the up gradation of the Kailashahar Airport. Besides, earlier the official had also sent a proposal with the department regarding acquisition of 70 acres of land for the up gradation work.
