DHARMANAGAR / AGARTALA, Feb 21 (TIWN) : Within the gap of 7 hours of inauguration programme held at Sichar (of commercial goods train for Tripura from Silchar) the BG train has been arrived at Dharmanagar Rail way station at around 8 pm on Saturday. Reportedly, common people were eagerly waiting for the arrival of train at Dharamanagar Rail station and Tripura’s people was found to celebrate the moment as a historical moment. However, in yet another blow, Modi govt.’s focus over North East zone of India has blessed state Tripura too, as the state has finally welcomed new commercial train on Saturday.After 67 years have been passed, Tripura had joined with India, for the first time with the Modi govt.’s special focus on North Eastern, the state Tripura is also observing enormous developments here in the state. And in this way, this day has also become a part of that history.The two goods trains, flagged off by the Minister are for Jirania station in Tripura and Jiribam in Manipur's East Imphal district. The goods train service has now linked with southern Assam with other north-eastern states. It is to be mentioned here the train from Badarpur entered Tripura’s Jirania station on Saturday night itself.During the prorgramme, Suresh Prabhu, Union railway Minister, Romen Deka,Ex MP Bijaya Chakraborty,Ex MP, Susmita Dev, Ex Mp were present.
In total, three Broad gauge trains have been inaugurated by Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu at Silchar:
1. Sampark Kranti train from Shilchar to Delhi
2. Badarpur-Tripura-Jirania commercial train
3. Badarpur-Manipur Commercial train
The inauguration was held at 2 pm, Saturday :
Jirania is 12 km from Agartala and about 215 km from Badarpur. Jiribam is in Imphal East district of M anipur and about 75 km from Badarpur.
A colourful function was held at Silchar in Assam to mark the launch of the new goods train service which will subsequently be studied by the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS).
The 437-km Lumding-Silchar and Badarpur-Agartala gauge conversion work was sanctioned in 1996. It was declared a national project in 2004, thereby ensuring uninterrupted funding from the central government's general budget. The project was hit by insurgency from 2006 to 2009 and works could only gain speed after that turbulent period.
