AGARTALA, Feb 16 (TIWN): Although slowly and gradually, but BJP is emerging as a major threat to the state opposition party Congress in Tripura’s political scenario. The situation can be better explained with the situation where BJP is the recently held bi-election to Amarpur assembly constituency gave a serious competition to congress and occupied the second position in the bi-election run.

According to the reports, BJP candidate Ranjit Das secured 9,751 votes in the bi-election to Amarpur assembly leaving behind congress with huge margin.

The BJP had secured more votes than the Congress, the main Opposition here, in elections to the Amarpur assembly bi-election held on February 13 though the party failed to win the elections.  It’s here mentioned that the by-election of Amarpur constituency was held on February 13. According to the state election officials more than 88 percent polling was registered. A total of 38,271 voters have exercised their franchise in the bi-polls.

Silently but steadily the BJP is emerging as a major threat to the beleaguered Congress in Tripura's electoral politics. Nothing illustrates this better than the polling percentage achieved by the BJP in the just-concluded Amarpur bi-polls.

After its best performance so far in the recently conducted Tripura bi-polls, BJP now threatens to dislodge Congress as the main opposition in the state. The saffron party has secured second position in its share in the polls, it’s best ever in Tripura.

The recent developments in the state’s political scenario has widened up the options of various political parties in the state. The most significant of all is the rise in popularity of the rightist party BJP in the tribal belt of the state where the party became the second choice of voters in the recently concluded bi-election. The vote share in comparison to the other political parties may not be that significant but the surcharge in the vote percentage compared to its previous performance is giving boost to the party think tanks here.

The party has been able to make a mark in the hearts of the educated class of the state as a potential alternative of the main opposition Congress which is waiting its complete white wash from the state politics, thinks political analysts here.

Majority of the opposition voters are losing confidence in the Congress party and the alleged understanding of the party top bosses at the central level with the left parties is further giving fuel to the process.
