AGARTALA, Feb 10 (TIWN): With the joint initiative of Tripura Police and BSF 195 battalion, the BSF Jawans on Tuesday late night detained one stolen bike from west Joynagar area adjacent to Battala BOP.

The jawans of BSF 195 battalion recovered the bike in a discarded condition from Battala BOP area but could not nab the thief.

“The stolen bike was spotted at a field covered with dense shrubs in the early hours on Wednesday by some locals of the area upon which the BSF was informed," police said. Jawans of BSF suspect that the bike lifters dumped the bike there failing to start it due to some technical snag. Further investigation is on. No one has been arrested till now in this connection.

However, police further confirmed that the bike was stolen from Joynagar a day before yesterday and a case was also registered with Battala outpost.

Later Battala outpost police communicated with the BSF jawans and asked to maintain strict vigil in the border area as most of the bikes stolen from Tripura are being sold in Bangladesh and are being smuggled to Bangladesh through the border areas.

However due to the strict vigil of BSF 195 battalion jawans the bike was detained successfully but the thief is yet absconding.

In most of the theft cases it is found that mostly Bangladeshi youths are involved in these theft cases. Tripura shares an 856-km border with Bangladesh. Around 80 percent of the border has been fenced. A large portion of the border is unfenced, porous, mountainous and riverine, making it advantageous for anti-social elements.

Police said cross-border criminals not only use the unfenced areas to enter India, but also climb over the fence using ladders. Young Bangladeshi boys are "hired" and sent to Tripura for various crimes including theft. After stealing various they smuggle it to Bangladesh.

Tripura Police has asked the Border Security Force (BSF) to always tighten vigil along the international border.

Illegal intrusion of the extremist, smuggling of contraband items and cattle’s across Tripura to Bangladesh and vice-versa has become an everyday issue. Despite the wire fencing across the border area Tripura has become the hub for transport of the prohibited goods.

Indo-Bangladesh border is allegedly described as a "problem area for tomorrow".

Recently it was found that, terrorists bombings in different places of India have indicated that militants are "freely using" the porous border to enter into India to carry out their heinous acts. The increasing numbers has made it virtually impossible to stop illegal entry despite of the security forces deployed in the border area.  Therefore, it is necessary that as much attention be given to the border area in Tripura to avoid illegal intrusion from Bangladesh.
