Detection of bird flu sparks tension among the locals

AGARTALA, Feb 5 (TIWN): After the bird flu virus has hits one of the state’s poultry farm at Gandhigram located in the capital, now again the virus has hit the areas of Longkamura.

Reportedly, around three hundred chicken died in the areas of longkamura and Kamalpur. However, it has been mentioned that officials of the department are has reached at the spot to investigate the issue.

It is to be mentioned here that around 10,000 chickens have been culled at the poultry farm of Gandhigram, following the detection of first case of Avian Influenza (bird flu) in the state on January 16.

Reportedly, as a part to control and containment measures to prevent the spread of the virus avian influenza in Tripura, a special team wearing protective aprons and masks begun with the massive drive of culling at Gandhigram.

As per the central guideline to handle avian influenza, the department has conducted the culling operation, a mandatory provision in the guideline.

However, avian influenza refers to the disease caused by infection with avian (bird) influenza (flu) Type A viruses.

It has been mentioned that the virus occurs mainly among the wild aquatic birds and later it infects the domestic poultry and other animal species.

Avian flu viruses do not normally infect humans. The virus gets transmitted in humans through contact with the infected birds, nasal secretions or secretions from the mouth and eyes.

However, sporadic human infections with avian flu viruses have occurred.

According to the World Health Organization, Avian Influenza was first discovered in humans in 1997, and has killed nearly 60 percent of those infected.

However, the situation has prevailed tension among the locals of the area.

On the other hand, with the spread of the information among the mass of the capital many people has stopped having chicken items and the sale of the chicken has decreased  compare to any other days.
