26th trade and commerce fair caters huge footfall

AGARTALA, Feb 4 (TIWN): The ongoing industry and trade fair inaugurated by Minister Tapan Chakraborty caters huge crowd from all parts of the state.

The ongoing trade and commerce fair here, marketing a wide variety of products from hand-woven fabric, to other variety of goods is the major destination of people during this season. The stalls are set up by co-operative societies in the district and neighbouring districts and also from the neighbouring country Bangladesh.

Residents are making a beeline for a variety of products - from handicraft to cars - available at the ongoing industry and trade fair.

Organised by the state government, so far the traders are happy with the response they received from customers.

Bamboo table coasters, herbal products, woollen clothes, handlooms, home-made pickles, quick-stitch machine, carpets, furniture, utensils, home appliances and beauty products have been put on display at stalls.

Local food sellers have also put up their stalls at the fair. The customers enjoyed delicacies, including local fast food items.

Industries & Commerce Minister Tapan Chakraborty inaugurated the 26th Tripura Industrial and Commerce Expo 2016 at Agartala International fair ground, Hapania.

Reportedly, like every year this year also traders from all across the country participated at the fair and displayed their items in the fair.

In the fair varieties of exquisite, traditional handicrafts and utensils were witnessed. Handicrafts, textiles and decorative objects were the highlights of the fair.

Huge crowd has been observed thronged in to the fair since the first day.

It is to be mentioned here that the Industry and commerce fair has been organized with an aim to provide platform to the rural artisans and local Self Help Groups besides, the traders also participate at the fair.

Besides, direct retail sales at the stalls are possible attracting consumers and visitors.

Similarly, the fifteen-day long national handloom expo 2016 sponsored by development commissioner for handlooms, ministry of textiles, Government of India and organized by directorate of handloom handicrafts and sericulture, Government of Tripura has been organized at the premises of Purbasha.

With this kind of expo the weavers or the people whose earnings are dependent over the hand crafted goods can get a platform to display their skills in National level. 

Handloom is the oldest industry in the State and the tribal people produce their own clothes with elegant designs, unique colour combinations and lasting texture. The traditional items produced include Risa and Riha.
