AGARTALA, Feb 3 (TIWN): The union Minister of State for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises MSME Giriraj Singh on Wednesday visited the Khadi Gram Udyog Bhavan in Tripura. Speaking at the Khadi office the Minister talked about maintaining the purity of khadi products in terms of negligible carbon footprint and environment friendly nature. He also emphasized on increasing the contribution of khadi and on creating more jobs for rural women in khadi sector by the means of khadi. Visiting Agartala he also monitored the work progress of the Khadi and also took a note of honey producing unit. It is to be mentioned here that the Narendra Modi-led government is committed to promote Khadi and generate new jobs in the sector, union Minister of State for Mini, Small and Medium Industry, Giriraj Singh said on Wednesday.The central government has got a prime objective to make Khadi job-oriented and promote it in the country as well as at international level", the Minister said while addressing the mass.

He also recalled that the PM had said, if you buy Khadi, you light the lamp of prosperity in the house of the poor. This appeal of the PM led to an increase in the sale of Khadi by 125% at the various outlets all over India. This reflects a latent demand for Khadi, which needs to be tapped, which in turn will create rural employment. Giriraj Singh said that the USP of the Khadi product is its Eco-friendly nature which leaves behind near zero carbon footprints. 
In the changing world of fashion, Khadi should be aggressively marketed as a fashionable product, he said, adding that Khadi production in every state is being assessed and reviewed by the Centre so that it could be exported to other nations.

Giriraj Singh is a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician from Barahiya, Bihar, India. He is the Member of Parliament from the Nawada constituency and a former minister in the cabinet of Nitish Kumar.

Singh served the Cabinet of Bihar as co-oprative minister from 2005-2010 & Animal Husbandry minister from 2010 to 2013. He has been a staunch supporter of Narendra Modi from the beginning. He publicly supported Modi for Prime Minister from long time. He was among the eleven BJP ministers who were dismissed by Nitish Kumar as a result of breaking of JDU-BJP alliance. He is a member of Bihar State Bharatiya Janata Party's 16-member state election committee.
