AGARTALA, Feb 2 (TIWN): CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday in a hall meeting at RS Bhawan organised by ruling party on the occasion of 100th birth anniversary of Comrade Dasaratha Deb, said that he was an example to the society for building up the relationship between the tribal’s and the non-tribal’s community of the state.He further said that the life of Dasarath Deb was a splendid journey where he has always wished for the development of the common people.Deb was a bridge to the amity and friendship between tribals and non-tribals of the state. He was not only a good orator but also an outstanding parliamentarian and at the same time an expert administrator, renowned author and a prominent linguistic. Due to his sole effort, the Kok-Borok script was invented in accordance with the tribal vocabulary, added Yechurry.
Mentioning about the TTAADC, he said that it was Deb who raised the demands for formation of Autonomous Tribal District Council with the tribal inhabited areas of the state, protection of rights of the tribal’s on their land, and at the same time, proper and judicious rehabilitation of the Bengali refugees.
He carried on relentless struggles in Parliament and outside for all-round development of the state. He played a valiant role in maintaining amity between tribal and non-tribal populations. He was in true sense a bridge between tribal and non-tribal communities and a symbol of unity and friendship in the state.
It is to be mentioned here that the year-long birth anniversary celebrations of Comrade Dasaratha Deb, a legendary Communist and icon of the movement for democratic transformation of Tripura, began on February 2, previous year concluded on Tuesday. As a part of the birth celebration, all the party offices in the state were embellished with red flags and portraits of Deb were garlanded. Hall meetings were held by the Party in memory of Deb, who was one of the pillars of amity and friendship between tribal and non-tribal communities.
However, addressing the people, CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury further criticised IPFT for provoking their demands for separate Twipra land. Later he also slammed central government alleging deducting funds allotted for the development of the state.
On Tuesday, concluding the year-long celebrations of his birth centenary, a state level hall meeting was held at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan, Agartala. It was addressed by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Tripura State Secretary Bijan Dhar among others.
Speaking at the program CM Manik Sarkar said under the feudal role Deb started the movement for universal literacy which subsequently turned to a movement for democracy. Another credible achievement Comrade Deb made was to guide the Ganamukti Parishad’s resistance movement in the right direction though attempts were being made to derail it in parochial ethnic line, Sarkar said.
