National seminar on Eco-Friendly processing and packaging in food processing observed

AGARTALA, Jan 29 (TIWN): National seminar on Eco Friendly Processing and Packaging in Food Processing has been organized on Friday at Pragna Bhawan.

Programme was organized with the initiatives of the All India Food Processors’ Association (AIFPA) in association with the North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Ltd. (NERAMAC) with the support of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.

The seminar was related to emerging trends and opportunities in the environment friendly packed processed food market in Tripura, Assessing the environment impact of food processing operations: Life Cycle Assessment, Sustainable Designing and development of eco-friendly packaging materials for various processed foods products.

Besides, trends and challenges in implementation of quality control and assurance measures in FPI, role of effective supply chain management in the control of wastages within food processing sectors, opportunities in the export of organic foods- a step towards eco-friendly processing and make in indis in food processing sectors – destination Tripura.

It is to be mentioned here that recently whike addressing the conclave on ‘North East Food Processing’, Minister for Industries & Commerce Tapan Chakraborty said that the subsidies which are being allotted by the Central Government for the food processing unit has the tenure till 2017.

Besides, he mentioned that if any sort of changes are being done on the scheme for the subsidy from the Central Government of if the subsidies are being stopped than it will create problem for the beneficiaries.

Stressing over the issue to extend or to continue the scheme of subsidy, Minister Chakraborty said that if the subsidy scheme is being withdrawn than most of the people has to face problem.

Besides, it has been mentioned that as bulk amount of jackfruit, pineapple are available in the state, so more food processing unit should be set up.

During the programme, the programme Principal Secretary of Industry M. Nagaraju, MLA cum Chairman of Tripura Small Industries Corporation Sudhan Das, Director of Department of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Saradindu, Executive Director of NERAMAC Ltd and others were also present.
