Fire erupts at City slum : slum dwellers narrowly escaped, no report of injury so far

AGARTALA, Jan 28 (TIWN): Massive fire broke out in a slum at Agartala Gurkhabasti area under NCC police station on Thursday morning. New capital complex OC said the fire erupted in ‘Gowala Basti’ slum in the area around 9:30 am. On information, two fire-fighting units rushed to the area and brought the flame under control within a very short time. It is not still clear what caused the fire, the duty officer added. The control room got a call at around 9.45 AM about the blaze following which two fire tenders were immediately rushed to the site, he said. Efforts were on to douse the flames; he said adding that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained. A major fire broke out in Gurkhabasti area have been reported to get sparked off in a hay stock after it was exposed to fire article.The fire, which broke on Thursday morning, expanded quickly and gutted dozen of hay stock. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot after which it took at least an hour to control the blaze.

Life came to stalled when massive fire broke out in the slum as the houses in the slums are congested and can take a bad shape if the fire gets spreaded.

The people of the slum on Thursday escaped death when massive fire broke out in the village. Panic prevailed in the area for more than hours, however, after hours of struggling the fire was brought under control with the effort from the fire tenders.

Reportedly, the incident took place in the morning hours of Thursday when a localite of the area witnessed smoke spreading wide from the hay stock and flames rising high and immediately called people around for help.

Talking to TIWN correspondent, NCC police official said that the preliminary investigation says that the fire broke out in the hay stock after the hay was exposed to fire substance and with the wind the fire spreaded in the hay. Police also said that there is no report of any casualty in the area and the fire is now under control. No one was reported hurt or killed in the mishap. 

Getting alarm about the fire incident huge police force of NCC police station along with 2 fire service crew reached the spot and after several attempts brought the fire under control. Fortunately the fire fighters reached the spot on time and contained the fire that prevented the flames to spread to the other parts of the area.
