AGARTALA, Jan 28 (TIWN): Although the Tripura Tourism Department claims to create tourism related infrastructures to increase the footfall and the boost the tourism industry in Tripura, it is seen that no initiative is taken to improve the existing tourist spots of the state. Despite of prolonged demand to provide keen eye on the historical crafted sculptures of Chabimura under Amarpur sub-division, the ruling Government is least bothered to safeguard the century old archaeological site. It is to be mentioned here that Archeological Survey of India (ASI) once agreed in principal for maintenance of Chabimura, the archaeological site at Devtamura, dates to the fifteenth or sixteenth centuries but no initiatives is taken so far and the spot is lying without any maintenance.

Chabimura is a hill range in Gomati district includes colossal carvings of the images of Shiva and Parvati. The purpose of the carvings and the artists who carved them are unknown. The statues are carved on the steep sloping rock exposures of the Kalahari Hills which drains into the Gomati River. There are in all 37 rocks cut images which also include images of Ganesha, Kartikeya, Mahishasuramardini, Durga and many others.

Chabimura is famous for its panels of rock carvings on the steep mountain wall on the bank of river Gomati. This place is situated at a distance of 75 Kilometre from the capital of the state i.e Agartala. It is literally a treasure house for the anthropologists, archaeologists and natural scientists.

It falls under Amarpur RD Block of Gomati District. Tourism Department of Tripura is claiming to develop this place but till date nothing has come forward.

With the renovation of the area and the sculpture, not only the tourist would have got the chance to enjoy the beauty but also the State would have earned revenue from every visit.

Several times the people of Chabimura approached to the tourism authority and demanded the proper maintenance to save the world famous heritage but yet today no initiatives have been taken to save the sculpture.

State Government where spends crores for the election campaign and other party need, why the government is showing negligence to safeguard the century old archaeological site

Devtamura is 85 kilometres in length and is situated at an altitude of 229 metres (751 ft) above sea level. It is situated in between Udaipur and Amarpur. Damburu Falls commences at the top of Devtamura, continuing through a series of terraces.

The approach to the site is only by boat a three-hour journey from Amarpur to Udaipur to the forest area of the site; the total distance of travel from Agartala is 75 km.
