AGARTALA, Jan 27 (TIWN): Although the state was put in high alert regarding terror attack on the occasion of Republic Day celebration, but SP West confirmed that no untoward incident was reported from any part of the state and the celebration was concluded successfully.
Talking to TIWN correspondent, SP Bijoy Nag said that there was no report of any untoward incident and republic day celebrations passed away peacefully.
It is to be mentioned here that the central government had also alerted the northeastern states over possible terror attacks ahead of the Republic Day but the celebration is Tripura was conducted under strict vigil to avoid any untoward incident.
SP West further said that The Border Security Force (BSF) has also maintained vigilance along the India-Bangladesh border to prevent trans-border movement of militants. Security forces were put on alert in searching airports, hotels, bus terminals as well as major markets across the region to avoid the occurrence of any untoward incident in the state.
Terrorist activities in Tripura reduced since a decade after Central Govt took positive steps to improve economy, employments and infrastructure development.
People stayed indoors and the streets were deserted except for the thousands of police personnel and soldiers that dotted the city.
Security arrangements was been beefed up in the state keeping in view of the Republic Day celebrations. The security forces have been kept on high alert in regard to the celebrations as they continued checking and frisking vehicles, said police official.
The district police claim to have made maintained foolproof security arrangements to observe that the Republic Day function passes off peacefully.
Patriotic fervour gripped the state on Tuesday as it celebrated its 67th Republic Day with unfurling of tricolour and tributes to martyrs.
The celebrations marked by colourful parades and other events in the state capitals passed off peacefully with authorities making elaborate security arrangements in view of alert put on terror attacks in the state.
