Tripura celebrates 67th Republic Day: Governor Tathagata Roy unfurls National flag at Assam Riffles ground

AGARTALA, Jan 26 (TIWN): Along with the whole nation, Tripura on Tuesday celebrated 67th Republic Day with unfurling of the national flag at Assam Riffles ground by Governor Tathagata Roy. Pomp, pageantry and patriotic fervour marked in the air on Tuesday as the 67th Republic Day was celebrated across the state with flag hoisting ceremonies, and the military parades, cultural extravaganzas and pledges to work for a developed and peaceful state Tripura at Assam Rifles ground. Like every year the main programme of the 67th Republic Day celebration was held at Assam Riffles Ground on Tuesday with the uniformed police platoon saluting the dignitaries during their ceremonial parade. Several wings of the Tripura Police comprising of the TSR battalions, West PS, West Women PS, Traffic Unit and Home guard along with the Assam rifles wing participated in the parade.However, Governor Tathagata Roy inspected the colourful parade and later received a grand salute on the dais.Addressing the 67th Republic Day celebration program on Tuesday at Assam Riffle ground extended greetings to the people. Republic Day honor the date on which the Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950 replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India.

The Constitution was adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949, and came into effect on 26 January 1950 with a democratic government system, completing the country's transition towards becoming an independent republic. 26 January was chosen as the Republic day because it was on this day in 1930 when the Declaration of Indian Independence (Purna Swaraj) was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress as opposed to the Dominion status offered by the British Regime, said Governor.

Governor Tathagata Roy also gave award on the occasion 67th Republic Day celebration. The medal was awarded in recognition of their meritorious services.

As Tripura along with the entire nation celebrated its 67th Republic Day, tight security has been maintained across the state.

During the programme today Chief Minister Manik Sarkar along with  DGP K. Nagaraj and other police officers remained present in the program.

Along with the Jawans the students of several schools also participated in the celebrations of the republic day on January 26.

To mark the celebration of Republic Day, almost all the schools, colleges, government and non-government organizations participated in the cultural program.

It is to be mentioned here that Republic day in India is celebrated every year with great honour on January 26 to honour the Constitution of India as it came into force on the same day in the year 1950.
