KAMALPUR, Jan 26 (TIWN): Kamalpur, a sub-division of 1920 declared by the then Royal rulers still remained a far way back from the rest of the state in the context of the development of life and living. The Nagar Panchayat which controlled and guided the urban life and remained the trend setter of modernization also failed to attain something very much important so-far. In this context, the commoners had a great hope to the new board and especially to the new Chairperson. TIWN conducted an intensive interview with the Nagar Panchayat Chairperson Subrata Bhattacharjee, who entered the political arena from the profession of teaching. He also had experience of official works and administrative works.

While interacting with TIWN, Subrata admitted that, Kamalpur remained detached from the tune and pace of the rest of the state like an island. Lack of tourist attractions, lack of railway connectivity, lack of industry and lack of commerce made Kamalpur backward.

He further admitted that, the lack of drinking water facilities, sanitation and hygiene and proper planned drainage system remained the most serious problems for the urban life. To rectify all those he assured that, teh new board got adopting master plans to modernize the Nagar Panchayat in a new way.

Regarding the issue of making Kamalpur more jubilant and lively, he demanded that, a plan of connecting Kamalpur with Halhali-Fatikroy NEC road as a halt through Marachara being prepared. He hoped this would intensify the trade and commerce a bit.

Further, he disclosed plans to beautify the town with parks for senior citizens and children. Unused parts of the old Hospital complex by the Nagar Panchayat for making business centre and also for beautification, might be acquired. He also communicated the matter with the Chief Minister and the Urban Development Minister for the betterment of Kamalpur.

He also informed that, Nagar Panchayat would be changed into Municipal Council shortly by extension of its area up to Noagaon and Kalachari- two adjoining panchayats.

However, how far he would be able to implement all those plans and programs would be matter to be seen.
