AGARTALA, Jan 20 (TIWN): The law and order of the state is put on question when even after passage of years police is reluctant to arrest the accused doctors alleged of embezzlement of cores of money in the much talked Unakoti HNM scam. Former NHM Mission Director Dr. Sandeep N Mahatme has although maintained his duty and as an active member of the society filed a case against the accused 17 doctors but after that police has not taken any initiative to arrest the acussed. Loopholes in the police investigation is yet successful in saving the prime accused involved in the NHM scam worth an amount of Rs 33 crore of money Suspensions grew over the issue why police is simply silent over the issue and is least bothered to take any action. National Health Mission (NHM) scam at Unakoti District has brought an embarrassment for the Tripura Left front government. With the filing of FIR against 17 health officials, a new set of curious questions are in the air which deserves persuasive response. It is to be mentioned here that former NHM Mission Director Dr. Sandeep N Mahatme has lodged complaint against the doctors but so far no action is taken against the accused. Months back FIR was lodged but so far no action is taken to nab them and the accused are roaming free.

It is to be mentioned here that case is now completely handed over to the police. But the same police at Unakoti district once refused to take any case against the scam.  Reportedly, the state government had received complaints of misappropriation of fund during the year 2014, following which the Tripura government has directed State Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM) to verify records in view of the alleged embezzlement of funds in the Unakoti district of north Tripura.

Sandeep N Mahatme, the former Mission Director of National Health Mission (NHM) who carried out the departmental probe into the alleged NRHM scam, said that huge amount of national flagship programme was misappropriated by some health officials.

The scam came to light in January this year after Kailasahar Congress unit president and MLA Birajit Sinha reportedly received information from the local NHM office. He had gheraoed CMO Alok Dewan and sought information. But after he got no response, Sinha approached Kailasahar police station to file an FIR against the NHM staff. But the police registered a general diary instead of recording an FIR. Sinha then decided to file a case in the high court seeking a CBI investigation into the case.
