AGARTALA, January 13 (TIWN): Demanding to return the Kohinoor diamond, Tripura Jana Jagaran Mancha on Wednesday informed that they have place demand to Queen Elizabeth.
Speaking in a press conference, President of the organization Hiranmoy Chakraborty said the mancha had placed deputation to British Queen Elizabeth and also to Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon.
Besides, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom David William Donald Cameron and others.
India has been claiming for the Kohinoor diamond prolonged several year, which was owned by several Mughal emperors and Maharajas before being seized by the British, was illegally acquired and wants it returned along with other treasures looted during colonial rule.
The diamond has been in British possession since East India Company forces in India defeated the Maharaja of Punjab in 1849 and forced him to hand it over to Queen Victoria as a tribute following the Treaty of Lahore.
The Kohinoor diamond was found at Kollur Mine, in the present state of Andhra Pradesh in India. It was originally 793 carats (158.6 g) when uncut. Once the largest known diamond, it is now a 105.6 carats (21.12 g) cut diamond.
