State observed 154th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda

AGARTALA, Jan 12 (TIWN): Along with the Nation, Tripura also celebrated the 154th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.

The Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda is also observed as the National Youth Day.

To mark the celebration a programme has been organized at Vivekananda Udyan by Ramakrishna Mission, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in the presence of Mayor of AMC Dr. Prafullajit Sinha, Secretary of R.K. Mission Swami Hitakamanananda and others on Tuesday has inaugurated the programme.

The programme was organized by Ramakrishna Mission of Agartala in collaboration of Vivek Udyan Sanrakshan Samity and Vivekananda Yuva Mahamandal.

The programme has been conducted in two parts.

Besides, along with the capital the celebration has been observed in several district and interiors of the State.

It is to be mentioned here that in the year Union Government has declared the Birthday of Swami Vivekananda as the National Youth Day and since 1985 the event is celebrated in India every year.

As the lectures and writings of Swami Vivekananda has been a source of inspiration for youth and have motivated numerous youth organisation.

Swami Vivekananda was an Indian Hindu monk and chief disciple of the 19th century Indian mystic Ramakrishna Paramahansa. He was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world and is credited with raising interfaith awareness, bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion during the late 19th century.

Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission and died at an early age of 39 on July 4, 1902 at Belur Math in Bengal Presidency, British India.

Vivekananda was born Narendranath Dutta at his ancestral home at 3 Gourmohan Mukherjee Street in Calcutta, the capital of British India, on 12 January 1863 during the Makar Sankranti festival.
