Rapist MLA Manoranjan Acharjee should not be released on Bail : Gomati district SP talks to TIWN

AGARTALA, Jan 12 (TIWN): Amidst tight security, the expelled rapist MLA Monarnjan Acharejee who was arrested in allegation of sexual abuse of a minor girl was produced before the Amarpur SDJM court on Tuesday.

Talking to TIWN correspondent on Tuesday, Gomati District SP said that the accused former MLA should not be released on bail.

Gomati District SP said that the accused MLA should not be released from the court on bail rather strict action should be taken against him.

Accused CPI-M leader Manoranjan Acharjee, who resigned from the Tripura assembly on December 10, 2015 after the party expelled him over allegations of sexual wrongdoing, was arrested on Saturday, police said. Although, the accused MLA denied the charges slated against him.

Expelled CPI-M MLA Manoranjan Acharjee who was arrested in allegation of rape of a minor girl was again produced before the court on Tuesday.

However, Gomati District SP further said that police has already filed the charge sheet against the accused and police demanded not to release the accused on bail and further interrogation should be done into the case.  Police is conducting regular interrogation with the accused expelled MLA Monaranjan Acharjee and is produced before the court.

Police arrested Acharjee and presented him before a local court which sent him to police custody till January 12, and was again produced before the court on Tuesday.

The main accused former CPM MLA Manoranjan Acharjee was arrested on Saturday with green signal from Tripura’s CM Manik Sarkar. Demands have been raised from different sources to arrest the accused. With demands raised from the different society police finally took the initiative and arrested the accused.

Amarpur police earlier have lodged a suo moto case against expelled CPI (M) MLA Manoranjan Acharjee with charges of molestation of a minor girl in his party office.

It is to be mentioned here that the gruesome incident took place on Nov 27 and intentionally the ruling party big heads hush up the matter and remain silent in the issue. 

The mother and her father alleged that MLA Manoranjan Acharjee had sexually abused her girl who used to visit him quite often.

It is worthy to mention here that police has lodged complaint against expelled MLA Manoranjan under section 354 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and protection of children from sexual abuse act.

Police is further conducting investigation into the case.
