AGARTALA, Jan 12 (TIWN): Demanding to regularize the supply of cylinder, consumers of RK Gas Agency on Tuesday staged road blockade at Barjala airport road.

The agitated consumers failing to collect their cylinders from the agency has hit the street and blocked the traffic movement for hours. The protest continued till 10 in the morning.

The deprived agitators stated that till their demand of regularising the supply of cooking gas are not fulfilled; they are not going to withdraw the protest.

Besides, they also demanded a higher official should meet them so that they can enhance the problem lingering for prolonged many days.

Consumers in Agartala are severely hit by the shortage of Liquid Petroleum gas (LPG) cooking gas cylinders over past many days.  As a result, black marketing is on the rise, with consumers forced to buy cylinders at prices ranging between Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 a piece.

Despite of several complains to the higher authority, no initiatives have been taken to solve the situation. Therefore, the common people are facing harassment.

Reportedly, long queue of agitated consumers has been observed outside the RK Gas Agency, disrupting the swift traffic movement in the area.

However, it seems like despite of the introduction of modified direct benefit transfer scheme for LPG, black marketers of domestic cooking gas cylinders making the availability of the LPG cylinder tough for the consumers of Barjala.

However, the consumers of R.K Gas Agency alleged that though they have booked the cylinders, they are not getting cylinders for prolonged many days. The consumers further alleged that every time the agency makes a lame excuse that there is no adequate bulk of cylinders where as they are providing cylinders to those who are ready to buy in with higher range.

Acute crisis of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder is still continuing in Tripura, triggering huge backlog.

On the other hand to meet the need of the LPG cylinder in the State Indian Oil Corporation is going to establish a mega gas bottling plant at Budhjungnagar Industrial Estate in Jirania subdivision.

However, it seems the problem is likely to end with the establishment of the bottling plant at Budhjungnagar.
