CPI-M expelled MLA Manoranjan Acharjee to be produced before court on Tuesday

AGARTALA, Jan 11 (TIWN): Expelled CPI-M MLA Manoranjan Acharjee who was arrested after 19 days in allegation of sexual abuse of a minor girl will be again produced before the court on Tuesday.

Accused CPI-M leader Manoranjan Acharjee, who resigned from the Tripura assembly on December 10, 2015 after the party expelled him over allegations of sexual wrongdoing, was arrested on Saturday, police said. Although, Acharjee has denied the charge.

Police arrested Acharjee and presented him before a local court which sent him to police custody till January 12, and again he will be produced before the court again on Tuesday.

Police has also submitted the charge sheet against the case and the accused will be again produced before the court on Tuesday.

Almost after month of the scam came into limelight, the main accused former CPM MLA Manoranjan Acharjee is finally arrested on Saturday with green signal from Tripura’s CM Manik Sarkar. Demands have been raised from different sources to arrest the accused.

Amarpur police earlier have lodged a suo moto case against expelled CPI (M) MLA Manoranjan Acharjee with charges of molestation of a minor girl in his party office.

It is to be mentioned here that the gruesome incident took place on Nov 27 and intentionally the ruling party big heads hush up the matter and remain silent in the issue. 

Although the Mother of a five and half year old girl has submitted separate written complaints to Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and CPM party secretary Bijan Dhar before the election but the party remained silent over the issue. In the letter, the mother and her father alleged that MLA Manoranjan Acharjee had sexually abused her girl who used to visit him quite often.

It is worthy to mention here that police has lodged complaint against expelled MLA Manoranjan under section 354 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and protection of children from sexual abuse act.

Opposition Congress legislators raised questions in the assembly on Friday and demanded a statement by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on the issue.

Sarkar, who also holds the home portfolio, later told the house that police would act at the earliest.

Gomoti district SP said that charge sheet has been filed already and the accused will be produced before the court on Tuesday for the second time and police is further conducting investigation into the case.
