State observed Road Safety Week

AGARTALA, Jan 10 (TIWN): With an aim to spread awareness among the people of the State, Transport Department of Tripura on Sunday organized the 27th Road Safety Week programme with a theme ‘Road Safety- Time for Action’.

The programme initiated with the salute taking ceremony and parade inspection Education, Industries & Commerce Minister Tapan Chakraborty.

The programme was inaugurated by Education, Industries & Commerce Minister Tapan Chakraborty in the presence of Chief Secretary Y.P Singh, Director General of Police K. Nagraj, Mayor Dr. Prafullajit Sinha, Transport Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik, Chairman of State Transport Authority Subrata Debbarma and others were present.

Road Safety Week is observed all across the nation with an aim to aware the people about the safety majors to be taken while driving and to follow the traffic rule.

However, the week long programme will continue till January 16.

On the 27th Road Safety Week programme, the vehicle riders were urged to carry all the legal required documents while driving, the speed of the vehicle should be maintained at 20 kilometres per hour, to avoid drinking and driving, not to carry goods in passenger vehicles.

Besides, the vehicle owners, Rickshaw riders, passerby and others were also aware and urged to follow the guidance to avoid any kind of untoward incident.

A guidelines issued by MoRTH has been placed at the programme as it is considered as necessary to protect the Good Samaritan from harassment on the actions being taken by them to save the life of the road accident victims.

However, during the programme of 27th Road Safety Week programme, a souvenir has been released.

It is to be mentioned here that the observance of the Road Safety Week was first initiated by ISS India HSE (Health Safety and Environment). The initiatives have been taken to aware the public about the national road safety in the Indian subcontinent.

ISS India had declared to celebrate the Road Safety Week all through the country in the first week of the month of January. The aim of this campaign was to emphasize and accentuate people about the need of safe roads travel by applying just simple rules.

However, Governor Tathagata Roy also greeted the people on the occasion of the 27th Road Safety Week.
