State to observe National Youth Day

AGARTALA, Jan 10 (TIWN): Keeping eye on the upcoming celebration of the Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, preparation is going on in full fledge in various parts of the State for the celebration of the National Youth Day.

The Union Government in the year 1984 had declared that on January 12, the birthday of Swami Vivekananda will be observed as the National Youth Day.

As the lectures and writings of Swami Vivekananda has been a source of inspiration for youth and have motivated numerous youth organisation.

Besides, to mark the occasion of birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the National Youth Day will be organized at Vivekananda Stadium.

Reportedly, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar is expected to grace the inaugural programme in the presence of Mayor of AMC Dr. Prafullajit Sinha, Secretary of R.K. Mission Swami Hitakamanananda and others.

However, it is expected that students from schools, colleges and university will participate at the programme.

In 1984 the Government of India declared the day as the National Youth Day and since 1985 the event is celebrated in India every year.

Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission and died at an early age of 39 on 4 July 1902 at Belur Math in Bengal Presidency, British India.

However, along with the Capital, the day will be celebrated in the every district of the state.

Swami Vivekananda was an Indian Hindu monk and chief disciple of the 19th century Indian mystic Ramakrishna Paramahansa. He was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world and is credited with raising interfaith awareness, bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion during the late 19th century.
