AGARTALA, Jan 7 (TIWN): On the occasion of the 68th Birth Anniversary of former Chairperson late Sankar Das a programme has been organized on Thursday at his resident at Khoyerpur.

Reportedly, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar inaugurated the programme. However, during the programme three students were provided with scholarship.

During the programme, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dr. Prafullajit Sinha, Deputy Mayor Samar Chakraborty, Deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar and others were present.

The chairperson Shankar Das died on 10th February of 2011 due to cerebral stroke.

Agartala Municipal Council (AMC) Chairperson and leading lawyer of Tripura Sankar Das died of cardiac failure today at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He died at an age of 65.

He is survived by wife Fulan Bhattacharjee, a journalist and a daughter. Das was shifted to AIIMS from Kolkata in the month of Fedruary following brain stroke.

He had suffered a Cerebra-Vascular attack on January 25 evening and was immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC). Next day, he was shifted to a private hospital in Kolkata and subsequently referred to AIIMS.

The Agartala Municipal Corporation is the municipal body which governs and maintains the city of Agartala, the capital of the Indian state of Tripura and is the second-largest city in North-east India.

It has been formed in the year 1871 and it is the oldest municipal body in Northeast India.

Agartala Municipal Corporation had a vital role in developing & modernizing the state and managing in its various activities.

However, at present Corporation is headed by the Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dr. Prafullajit Sinha.
