Earthquake measuring 6.7 magnitude damaged Udaipur Maharani Barrage, RGM Hospital of Kailashahar : fear prevails among people

UDAIPUR/ KAILASHAHAR, Jan 5 (TIWN): Damages of earthquake to Maharani Barrage over under Gomati District seems limited to crack after Tripura has been hit with 6.7 magnitude of earthquake on Monday early morning.The crack witnessed on the barrage grips panic among the people in the area. As it is the only way from Maharani to connect the adjacent area, panic gripped among the locals as the baraze can collapse any moment of another earthquake comes. Besides, thousands of vehicles crosses the barrage therefore, this crack is a risk for the people. Similarly, Kailashahar District Disability Rehabilitation Centre and RGM Hospital of Kailashahar also developed crack and can collapse in any sudden earthquake.Though there are no reports of any major loss but the crack caused in the buildings and bridge may cause huge damage.“We are crossing the barrage in panic as it may collapse anytime”, said a local. Besides, they also urged the authority to an immediate action to renovate the bridge as huge number of vehicles crosses the bridge days.However, they also mentioned that the bridge is very old and the crack cause due to earthquake caused damage to the bridge and may collapse any time.

Similarly, no major damages have been reported from the Kailashahar and Udaipur as well. But the crack caused in the Hospitals and the rehabilitation centre has gripped panic among the common mass of the area.

It is to be mentioned here that Tripura was declared high risk prone for earthquakes by the NDMA after the state was found to fall under seismic zone V.

Earthquake measuring 6.7 magnitudes has struck the land of Northeast on Monday early monrning.

The epicentre of the earthquake, which occurred at 4.37 am at a depth of 17 km below the ground, was at Tamenglong which is located 33 kilometers from Imphal in Manipur.
