There is no presence of extremist or their infrastructure in the state, claims DGP K Nagraj

AGARTALA, Jan 4 (TIWN): As a part of the Celebration of Tripura police week-2016, Director General of Police (DGP) K Nagraj on Monday hold an annual press meet of Tripura police at police headquarters.

Addressing the press meet, Director General of Police (DGP) K Nagraj claimed that the internal security of Tripura has consistently improved due to the pro active policing. He also claimed that there is no presence of extremist or their infrastructure in the state. Apart he also said that the as  a result of the massive improvement in the situation of the Tripura, the notification of declaring some areas in the state as disturbed areas under section 3 of the Armed Forces special powers act,1990 has been withdrawn by the government.

Tripura police also claimed that the police have been successful in improving the law and order situation of the state.

Laying stress on controlling crime, he further said that there has been significant improvement in overall crime management in the state. Overall registration of crime has come down by 16 percent during 2015 as compared to the previous year.  The issues of women safety has remained as the priority of the Tripura police, added Nagraj.  Various initiatives such as opening of four new women police station, women help line, women help desk are being adopted to provide 24 hours help to the women, said Nagraj.

Apart from all this he also said that Tripura police has remained successful in conducting peaceful election in the state.  Other than this PRAYAAS interactions have helped to inculcate the much needed awareness among the target groups for dealing with pressing social issues like crime against women, addiction to drugs, domestic violence and others.

Further enhancing on the challenges he also said that with the technological advancement and the use of the internet, number of cyber crimes has gone high. He also said that though the cyber crime is marginal in the state but in the coming days it may put up new challenges before the Tripura police.

Replying to a query regarding the release of Ganadoot triple murder case accused Sushil Chowdhury, Nagraj claimed that Tripura police has done their best in the investigation work and the rest of the decision was up to the court.

However, it is to be mentioned here that Director General of Police (DGP) K Nagraj has called this annual press meet on the occasion of the Tripura police week celebrations.

Like every other year the five day long police week began of Sunday at Monoranjan Debbarma memorial stadium.

Police week is celebrated in Tripura from January 3 to 6. To celebrate the success of State police, several programs are organized at Manoranjan Debbarma Memorial Stadium, A.D. nagar.
