BELONIA, Dec 30 (TIWN): Theft cases involving Bangladeshi youths have been raising sharply in Belonia under South Tripura Town area. Reportedly on last night there had been theft of goods from three houses near Sisu Uddan Children Park near Muhuri Ghat area.
In most of the theft cases it is found that mostly Bangladeshi youths are involved in these theft cases. Tripura shares an 856-km border with Bangladesh. Around 80 percent of the border has been fenced. A large portion of the border is unfenced, porous, mountainous and riverine, making it advantageous for anti-social elements.
Police said cross-border criminals not only use the unfenced areas to enter India, but also climb over the fence using ladders. Young Bangladeshi boys are "hired" and sent to Tripura for various crimes including theft, alleged the locals of Muhurichor area at Belonia Town District HQ border area, where the theft cases are on a arise these days. After stealing various materials /Silver utensils and vacant houses near the border areas, these youths deposit the materials with their employer against some daily wages, alleged locals.
Tripura Police has asked the Border Security Force (BSF) to tighten vigil along the international border but every night the thieves enter Muhuri Ghat area and steals goods from the houses. The localites further alleged that they have raised issue with the BSF at Belonia border area but so far no action is taken by the BSF jawans. Taking the advantage of the lack of security in the border areas the thief’s enters at the border area and steals goods from the houses and also threatens the people of killing them.
However, the localities have demanded a strict vigilance by the BSF and police in the area to save them from the harassment of the Bangladeshi thieves particularly at Night.
