AGARTALA, Dec 27 (TIWN): Despite of strict vigilance in the border area and the outposts of the state, smuggling goes rampant in various areas in the State. Talking to TIWN correspondents Superintendent of Police (West) Bijoy Nag on Saturday said that the police personnel are in regular check over any kind of intrusion in the major areas. Besides, he also mentioned that both Border Security Guards and the police personnel are keeping strict vigilance over major areas to curb the illicit intrusion of items. Stressing on the strict vigilance led by the security personnel, West SP Bijoy Nag mentioned that regular initiative are going by the security personnel. Allegedly despite of strict vigilance in the area, smuggling of Phensedyl a cough syrup, with an exceedingly high dose of codeine and other contraband items are increasing day by day in the state. According to the common mass in the area, smuggling of cows to Bangladesh has been matter of decades. Police has been often detaining number of vehicles and seize thousands of bottles of Phensedyl consignments that are not used in Tripura but are supplied to Bangladesh. But, this is just the tip of the iceberg because the network is very deep rooted and widespread. Reportedly, several Border areas are yet to be fenced. Around nine kilometres of border areas of Sonamura are yet to be fenced.

About the  remaining unfenced border areas, it has been mentioned that around eight kilometre of Balerdhepa, Srimantapur, northern side of Durgapur and NC Nagar under Sonamura Police Station, 200 meters of Tarapur village and around 800 meters of Buxanagar are yet to be fenced.

However, despite of strict vigilance in the border areas miscreants cut the fence and manage to smuggle cows, contraband items.

As it has not become possible to provide fencing in all side of the border, kidnapping and thefts, smuggling of cattle, human trafficking, fake currency are quite rampant along the border as there is lack of proper security arrangements in some parts of the bordering areas.
