Modi’s visit to Pakistan would help to improve the relation between both the countries: BJP Tripura President talks to TIWN

AGARTALA, Dec 26 (TIWN): Appreciating the Modi's visit to Pakistan, the State President of Bharatiya Janta Party Sudhindra Dasgupta on Saturday said that this would help to improve the relation with the neighbouring countries. Talking to TIWN correspondents on Saturday, BJP State President said that maintaining good relation with the neighbouring countries will bring prosper to the nation.Particularly mentioning the several attacks on the India, Sudhindra Dasgupta said that though the terrorist have attacked the nation several times but if we can maintain good relationship it will be good for our own nation.It is to be mentioned here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew into Lahore on December 25 and met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif while returning to New Delhi from Kabul. The sudden visit of PM Modi to Pakistan took place after Nawaz Sharif received a call from PM Modi on his birthday from Kabul on December 25. While greeting Nawaz Sharif on his birthday, PM Modi expressed desire to meet the Pakistani leader. However, it is Modi's first visit to Pakistan and the first trip by an Indian prime minister to the country in 11 years.

At the Allama Iqbal International Airport, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was received by Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and others. Besides, Finance Minister of Pakistan Ishaq Dar and the Indian envoy, T.C.A. Raghavan.

Modi's surprise visit came nearly 19 months after Sharif and other South Asian leaders were in New Delhi for Modi's oath taking in May 2014.

Besides, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed expressed that the surprise visit to Pakisthan is a right step in the right direction. The goodwill gesture by Modi will definitely break the ice in the relations between the two neighbours.

On the other hand, the Indian Youth Congress on December 25 protested against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's surprise visit to Lahore to meet his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif.

Hundreds of Youth Congress workers were stopped by police as they were marching towards the PMO from the group' headquarters.
