AGARTALA, Dec 25 (TIWN): Aiming to aware the people of the State about the alarming number of cancer patients, Sri Krishna Mission Alumni Association on Friday organized a long distance marathon at Umakanta Academy.

The long distance marathon run has been named ‘Razem Run’- a run against cancer.

Appreciating the initiatives taken by the Association, Sports Minister Sahid Choudhury at Umakanta Mini Stadium said that this initiative would help the people to aware about the cancer.

Besides, it will encourage the people to take care of their health and to leave addiction free life.

Sports Minister Sahid Choudhury has inaugurated the programme in the presence of CRPF DG Balaram Shil and others at Umakanta Mini Stadium.

It is to be mentioned here that the male participants had ran for 7 kilometre and the female candidates for 3.5 kilometres.

Cancer, also known as a malignant tumour or malignant neoplasm, is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. Not all tumours are cancerous; benign tumours do not spread to other parts of the body.

It is to be mentioned here that consumption of tobacco cause about 22% of cancer deaths. Another 10% is due to obesity, poor diet, lack of physical activity, and consumption of alcohol. Other factors include certain infections, exposure to ionizing radiation, and environmental pollutants.

It has been mentioned that the initiatives have been taken to aware the people about the rising number of cancer patients in the State.

Besides, a cultural programme will also be organized on December 30 at Nazrul Kalashetra.

However, the association is conducting the programme with help of Tripura Olympic Association and Sri Krishna Mission School.
