AGARTALA, Dec 25 (TIWN): ‘Farmers’ Income Improvement Training Programme and Distribution of Farm Inputs’ were organized to address the slogan ‘Jai Krisan Jai Vigyan’ involving more than 200 tribal farmers on 24th December 2015 in the Conference Hall of Principal Officer’s Building at Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), Khumulwng, West Tripura. The entire programme was organized jointly by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Tripura Centre, Lembucherra, West Tripura and Animal Resource Development Department (ARDD) of TTAADC, Khumulwng, West Tripura.
Executive Member (ARDD & Fisheries), TTAADC, Khumulwng,Santanu Jamatia inaugurated the programme. Chief Executive Member, TTAADC, Khumulwng, Radhacharan Debbarma graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
At the outset, Dr. Sanjib Majumder, Principal Officer (ARDD), TTAADC, Khumulwng welcomed the dignitaries, scientists, farmers, press and media personals.
The Joint Director of ICAR, Tripura centre, Dr. M. Datta addressed the gatherings and narrated the objective of organizing such programme. Dr. Datta explained the insight of the slogan ‘Jai Krisan Jai Vigyan’. He depicted the scopes of income generation from livestock resources in the light of applying improved technology for strengthen capabilities of the farmers and enhancement of the profits by the farmers. Shri Abhisek Singh, IAS, Chef Executive Officer, TTAADC, Khumulwng appreciated ICAR, Tripura Centre to organize such type programme exclusively for the tribal farmers.
He highlighted on different activities of TTAADC in the area of agriculture and allied sectors. He suggested the farmers for using livestock resources in a proper and scientific way to achieve in self-sufficiency in terms of meat, eggs and milk production.
In the technical session, Dr. Avijit Haldar, Principal Scientist (Livestock Production) of ICAR, Tripura Centre explained the need and importance of the programme for the farmers in this region. He emphasized to make the farmers more empowered and prosperous through utilizing scientific knowledge and using good quality livestock and poultry birds. Dr. Haldar highlighted on some zoonotic diseases, in particular Japanese Encephalitis that might be transmitted from pigs to human beings. Dr. Vinay Singh, Scientist (Poultry Science) delivered a lecture on scientific rearing of poultry birds to produce at least 100 eggs from a poultry bird in a year under backyard system of management.
The The Hon’ble Chief Executive Member, TTAADC, Khumulwng, Shri Radhacharan Debbarma called upon the farmers to make farming community more productive and prosperous through new science and technology interventions. He emphasized the need for such type of training programme for the tribal farmers. Shri Radhacharan Debbarma encouraged the tribal farmers to undertake new technology in the field of animal husbandry to enhance the production of milk, meat and eggs and ensure food security in the state.
In this programme, ICAR, Tripura Centre arranged 600 rural poultry birds and 60 white yorkshire piglets to distribute among the tribal farmers. Shri Santosh Debbarma, the Hon’ble Chairman, ZDC, TTAADC, West Zone, Khumulwng presided over the function. He acknowledged ICAR, Tripura Centre for providing different inputs to the farmers and disseminating new technologies to the farmers in different remote villages in the simplest manner. The distribution of various farming inputs was sponsored by Tribal Sub Plan of ICAR, Govt. of India. The event created huge enthusiasm among the farmers.
