Six members of a family receives bail after the victim changed her statement

AGARTALA, Dec 20 (TIWN): After the accused six family members were arrested in an accusation of tying a 60-year old woman to a pole and beaten her and shaved off with a blade, the court has released them as the victims statement changed before the court.

Four women and three men were arrested involved with the incident at a small village in South Tripura. Six members were arrested but the court has granted bail as the victim has not changed he statement before the court which she has earlier given to the Police, says police.

According to the police, the accused were Nimai Bhil, Aapan Bhil, Bhagabati Bhil, Mayarani Bhil, Hirubala Bhil, Rukha Bhil members of the same family.

Reportedly, it has been alleged that the victim was having illicit affair with a man. After several warning also when she continued the relation the people has dragged her out and tied her to a pole and beaten her black and blue.

However, the victim in her statement said that the six family members has beaten her by tying her in a pole but in the court she stated that nothing happened to her only her hair has been shaved.

It is worthy to mention that the Tripura Government has been taking initiatives to increase the police personnel in the state, but the crime rate of the state are yet to curb.

Cases of crimes against women in Tripura are rising. In 2011, 1,503 such cases were registered while the number went up to 1,650 in 2012 and 1,706 in 2013. Beside from April 2013 to March 2014, the number of case relating to the women registered at 848.

When the crimes against women had already taken a top most position in Tripura, the state govt. has taken certain steps to curb it, like recruitment of more women police and setting up more women police station.

However, apart from this many other incidents against women have been going on in the State. Despite of knowing everything the authorities are playing silent role of a spectator.
