KAILASHAHAR, Dec 10 (TIWN): Election for Kailashahar Municipal Council and three Panchayat went off peacefully, said Returning officer Ajit Sukla Das.
Talking to TIWN correspondent, SDPO of Kailashahar Ratan Majumder said that till afternoon no complaints has been registered nor any untoward incident has been witnessed in the sub-division. He further said that polling is going on peacefully in the area.
Heavy polling has been recorded till Wednesday afternoon.
Altogether 18 polling stations have been set up for the 15 seats of Kailashahar Municipal Council. Besides, for the election in three panchayat there are five seats.
It is expected that 85 to 95 percent of votes may be casts in the civic poll at Kailashahar.
It has been mentioned that due to malfunctioning of Electronic Voting Machines at ward number 11 and 13, the voters delayed by around half an hour.
Besides, few other Electronic Voting Machines in the capital were found malfunctioning, disrupting the smooth cast of the votes in the areas.
So far the voting passed off peacefully with no major incident reported from anywhere in the north-eastern state, which shares an 856-km border with Bangladesh.
The ballots will be counted on December 12. Political parties also expressed happiness over the peaceful conduct of the election so far and are expecting to win the election.
However, the violence-free election has brought a huge relief to the administration.
