AGARTALA, Dec 9 (TIWN): A total of 6,600 security personnel are deployed to conduct free and fair election which is being held on December 9.
Keeping an eye on the municipal election, the safety measures are also increased at the police station and the outpost under the municipal and the Nagar panchayat areas.
Night patrolling, inspection with the dog squad, regular checking with the vehicles, is on full swing ahead of the municipal election in the state.
As the authority is looking forward to conduct safe election in the state, the state administration has geared up with all safety measures.
In order to ensure free and fair civic elections in Tripura, the Union Home Ministry sanctioned the deployment of 15 companies of Central Para Military Forces (CPMF) for election duties and the force has also arrived in the state.
Earlier, the union ministry had rejected the proposal of Tripura government for deployment of CPMFs during civic polls, but after repeated request of the state government, the union ministry approved the state government’s plea.
The state election department sources said that fifteen companies of CPMFs would be deployed in guarding strong rooms where EVMs are to be kept. The CPMF jawans have already taken possession of twenty strong rooms where EVMs will be kept after the polling onDecember 9. Apart from strong rooms, central forces would be deployed when ballot papers are printed for the civic elections.
In all, 86 mobile patrolling teams would conduct close surveillance during the polls. Adequate number of personnel from CRPF, BSF and Assam Rifles would be deployed in and around the polling stations.
Elections would be held on Wednesday to the 49-seat Agartala Municipal Corporation, 13 municipal councils and five Nagar Panchayats across the state.
