AGARTALA, Dec 9 (TIWN):Agartala is set to become the third international internet gateway in the country after Mumbai and Chennai, BSNL chief general manager (NE Circle)D P Singh said.
The Third international internet gateway (IGW) is all set to be operationalised this month, but waiting for the schedule from Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina, who might decide to attend the formal inauguration to boost ties between two countreis.
Technical signal test was successful but Router yet to be installed said a BSNL official here. Moreover Router is coming via DTDC Courier service.
Bangladesh submarine cable operator, Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company Limited (BSCCL) has already connected 10 GBPS bandwidth with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) cable through Akhaura integrated Checkpost. “This will help the government to save a lot of money,” Ravi Sanakar Prasad said.
According to report, BTCL and BSNL authorities have invited Prime Ministers of the respective countries to formally launch it sometimes in December. But still the date is not finalized from any of the country.
Ministry of Telecommunication has been prioritizing the project to strengthen telecom network in Northeast and eastern India to bring investment in information technology. Moreover, the digital India initiative of present government has also increased the pressure on existing international gateways at Chennai and Mumbai.
The internet highway of submarine cable from Coxs Bazar port of Bangladesh has connected to BSNL cable at Akhaura Checkpost. Though BSNL has completed the lane laying work in Indian side yet waiting for equipments to customize the benefit for the subscribers.
