Countdown begins for the Civic poll: Election campaigns end on Monday

AGARTALA, Dec 7 (TIWN): The leaders of the main parties are racing across the state for one final push to pick up support in favour of their party.

All the political parties in the state have geared up with the last minute election campaigns to woo the voters as the election campaign for the Municipal Election ends on Monday evening. Election campaigning for the Municipal election which is scheduled to be held on December 9 will be concluded on Monday evening just 48 hours before the election. As per the order of the State electoral officials electioneering by all contesting parties would end 48 hours prior to poll day, this also includes candidates' appealing through SMSes and tele-calling. Bike rally, foot march, miking, distribution of pamphlets, posters, banners, flags and festoon have simply gained momentum just few hours ahead of the Municipal Election in the state.

Almost all the political parties are busy in holding campaigns in full swing to gain huge number of votes and to ensure the hundred percent vote cast on December 9. It is to be mentioned here that if any political party is found campaigning in favour of the party during the crucial time of 48 hours, action will be taken against the party candidates.  

Violation of the rules by the party will call for action.About 70 percent of the total polling booths are identified as sensitive by the police administration and special security force including TSR to be deployed to maintain the safety conduct of the election.According to plan prepared by the state police administration for the upcoming civic elections all the identified sensitive polling booths will be guarded by the TSR jawans on the day of election.Of the total 730 polling stations, the police administration has identified around 70 percent booths as sensitive where TSR would be engaged on the day of election. To ensure a violence-free election and to avoid any pre-poll untoward incident, a full-proof security arrangement has been made by the administration, said an official source.

However, the Municipal election will held on December 9 and the counting will be conducted on December 12.

State chief election commissioner told reporters here that counting of votes for 5 lakhs, 37 thousand, and 986 voters would take place onDecember 12.  Among them 2 lakhs, 69 thousands and 214 are male voters and 2 lakhs, 68 thousands and 754 are female voters.

However, the countdown begins for the municipal election and the political parties are campaigning in full effort to completely sweep in the election.
