AGARTALA, Dec 6 (TIWN): On the one hand where the so called poor people's government CPI-M is way ahead with holding big budget election rally and mass gathering by spending lakhs of rupees, it is seen that Tripura is under huge debt of total 100 crores, which is yet to be paid to the power plants based in Tripura. It is witnessed that Power Minister Manik Dey blames the Power Plants of Tripura alleging that power plants are under huge crisis, due to irregular power generation, but in reality the TSECL is yet to pay about 100 crores to the Power Plants of Tripura, amongst them Palatana Power Plant(OTPC) is the highest.Talking to TIWN correspondent OTPC MD Satyajit Ganguly said that at the best OTPC can request the government to clear the due payment and nothing else is in the hand of OTPC. He further said that TSECL is about pay the highest due bill to the OTPC power plant based in Tripura; however, despite several urges no action is taken from TSECL to clear the due payments. It is to be mentioned here that the issue between the power plant and TSECL is old and contradictory.Earlier talking to TSECL MD Shyamal Roy said that the power plants based in Tripura are not doing any favour to the state and even Tripura has also provided land to many Plants like OTPC, from where they are getting the profit by supplying power to the grid, and thus shares power with 7 NE states. He also laid stress on the issue that Assam government is getting the highest benefit where the Power Grid is supplying from Tripura based OTPC. However, the clashes between Plants & TSECL are existing since many days.

But it’s worthy to mention here that Palatana is generating power in full swing these days with fluent supply of gas from ONGC. Officials source of Tripura based plants, said that although in a cheap rate plants are providing power here, but crores are pending to the Plants by Tripura Govt.

However, it is to be mention here that Tripura after being able to produce surplus amount of power in the state, it has decided to sell the surplus power to Bangladesh as Bangladesh seriously needs electricity for household, industrial, irrigation and other purposes and the decision to sell power to Bangladesh may boost the bonding between both the countries in the coming days.

Tripura’s accessibility of generating electricity is now surplus after the commissioning of  both the unit of 726 MW thermal power project at Palatana in Gomati district of Tripura, of which the second unit was  inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated in December last year.

The Palatana project is a brand of cooperation between India and Bangladesh, which ensured smooth passage of heavy project equipment and turbines to Palatana through its territory by road and waterways from Haldia port in West Bengal.

Although the ruling government never lag behind to boast that Tripura will supply excess power to Bangladesh but never takes any initiative to pay the pending bill the power plant based in Tripura.
