Tripura celebrates Home guards and civil defence day

AGARTALA, Dec 6 (TIWN): Together with the rest of the country, Tripura Home Guards and Civil Defence celebrated its 53rd Annual Day at the police ground, on Sunday.

The day is observed to apprehend for their recognition which would serve as an inspiration for others to discharge their duties diligently.

Chief Secretary Yash Pal Singh remain present to take a note of the parade staged by the Home Guards and Civil Defence candidates.

DG K.Nagaraj, DM Millind Ramteke along with other dignitaries remained present in the program.

It is to be mention here that Civil Defence and Home Guards were appreciated by the dignitaries for assisting in any kind of emergency and also whenever calamities, both natural and man-made takes place.

The department provides help to the state police and civil administration in the maintenance of law and order, in meeting security requirements of many Central and State Government departments and private sector undertakings.

As the nation is grappling with internal disturbances on one hand and terrorism on the other hand, role of Civil Defence Core has become very important. The programme was organized to commemorate the foundation day of Civil Defence and Home Guards.

While discussing about the social work and other work done during natural calamities, the district magistrate Millind Ramteke said that the role of Civil Defence has assumed significance in the present time. 

He said that this organization works tirelessly in the social causes. He also stated that Civil Defence is fully cooperating with district administration while doing its works. 

The Indian Home Guard is an Indian paramilitary police force. It is a voluntary force, tasked as an auxiliary to the Indian Police. The Home Guards Organisation was reorganised in India in 1962 after the Sino-Indian War with the People's Republic of China, though it existed in smaller units individually in some places. Home Guards are recruited from various cross sections of the civil society such as professionals, college students, agricultural and industrial workers etc. who give their spare time for betterment of the community.

Civil Defence Day is celebrated on 6th December every year to make aware of the citizens and highlight the importance of civil defence. The civil Defence provides protection to the civilian population during crisis. The civil Defence and Home Guards are the twin voluntary organisations for the cause of defence to the nation. These organisations are based on the concept of safety of the common man. The motto of Civil Defence and Home Guards, the twin voluntary organisations is "Nishkam Seva" or "selfless Service" which is a noble objective in life. The service gives the sense of worth, happiness, achievement and applause in the life of a Civil Defence Volunteer. They do an excellent service to the nation and are upholding the highest traditions of voluntary work. These organisations are also well known for mitigating the suffering of the victims of disasters as first responders.
