AGARTALA, Dec 2 (TIWN): Uncertainty looms large over the patient management at the GBP (Govinda Ballav Pant) Hospital; Minister Badal Choudhury claimed that the so called initiative for the improvement of the hospital is still under way.Talking to TIWN correspondent on Tuesday evening, Minister for Health & Family Welfare Badal Choudhury said that the numbers of patients are more compare to the number of bed in the Hospital. He further said that despite of having 900 beds, the hospital is unable to meet the need of the beds for the patients lying on the floor.Adding to the comment, Minister Choudhury further said that initiative for the improvement of the GBP Hospital is under way.But the question is, the pathetic scenario of the hospital is not new for the public or the department rather it is continuing for prolonged many years, so why the concern authority yet need more time to think about the improvement. Why not they are taking any instant step to improve the scenario ?
Most of the health centres in the State are running lack of adequate number of doctors and nurses. Besides, the patients are also suffering from lack of beds and insufficient infrastructure.
Hundreds of patients lay down on the floor just because the hospital lacks bed and some of the poor families are unable to pay the for the bed.
Many sanctioned posts are laying vacant thus rendering costly medical infrastructure created at these health institutions remains useless because they lack specialists to operate them. The doctors prefer lucrative urban postings rather than serving at a PHC.
According to the sources, most of the staffs are rude, arrogant, lazy and they handles patient with a negative attitude. Whenever the patients and the patient party ask any kind of help the staff either shouts at them or they will respond to the call lately.
The pathetic situation does not end here, even there are no staff to carry the patient on stretcher. The patient party has to carry them on the stretcher to take the patient anywhere.
Besides, the patients also had to wait for the doctors for prolonged hours to come and to do the check up. Even if any kind of emergency come up the patient party has to run here and there for doctors to come. It happens once in a blue moon that any doctor comes up on time and does the treatment.
Patients visits the hospitals for immediate treatment but the lack of doctors and availability of doctors lately makes the patients to suffer.
There is a huge lack of care and kindness, such as most of the nurses handle the patients with rough action.
Even after several humble requests, the staffs ignore to provide beds to the patient. As a result, a vast number of the critical and semi-critical patients undergo treatment on the floor, outside of the concern ward day after day.
Despite of several problems faced by the people of the State, the ruling government is busy in clamouring the slogans of development in the State.
