AGARTALA, Dec 1 (TIWN): Numbers of CNG workers on Tuesday held protest at Badarghat CNG station for about two hours raising slogans to fulfil their demands. Alleging deprivation from their regular wages, to provide 12days holiday in the entire year, to provide them daily wage of Rs 350, to provide an extra salary of one month along with few other demands the CNG workers staged protest for about two hours. The protesters demonstrated at the entry of the CNG station and stopped the supply of CNG gas from the station raising traffic chaos. The protesters alleged that they are not given their regular salary and neither are they allowed to know their deposits at the provident funds. They further stated that they have been reporting the issue to their DSM, but even after several plea no action is taken fulfil their demands. With the aim to turn Tripura into a green city, efforts are in full swing to run vehicles by compressed natural gas (CNG), and government is further planning to set up more CNG station in more 7 sub-division but it is seen that they are not given their deserving wages and being deprived of their rights. There are five CNG stations in the state, an online mother station of TNGCL at Briddhanagar, Khayerpur one mother station at AD Nagar, one Daughter Booster Station at Abhoynagar, one mother station at TRTC Complex, Krishnagar and a Daughter Booster Station at Udaipur.

TNGCL commenced supply of natural gas to Agartala in the way back June, 1990, initially to domestic customers. The GAIL took over TNGCL’s management position in the year 2005. The TNGCL currently supplies PNG close to 18506 domestic, 294 commercial and 47 industrial consumers in and around the city Agartala. TNGCL has taken up expansion plan to cover rest of Agartala under PNG connectivity in upcoming years.

However, it is to be mention here that as the CNG workers sat on an hour long strike at the Badarghat CNG station and gas supply was stopped many people who came their vehicle for refilling returned empty. Even many waited in long queue to refill their vehicles which lead to the traffic chaos at the Badarghat railway station.

However, getting alarm the representatives of the authority reached to the spot and took a note of their demand. Later the authority took time of 25 days and assured them to fulfil their demands as early as possible.

Further getting assurance from the authority the workers withdraw their protest and resumed the gas supply and let the traffic flow swiftly.
