AGARTALA, Dec 1 (TIWN): To commemorate the Bijoy Diwas of Bangladesh, Engineers and workers of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited are working round the clock to set up the 47 km transmission line from Western Tripura to southern Comilla in eastern Bangladesh. India ensures supply of additional 100 MW electricity to Bangladesh from December 16, when the country will celebrate Bijoy Dibosh or Victory Day.Reportedly, The 100 MW power will be dispatched to Bangladesh from Suryamaninagar power sub-station at the outskirts of Agartala and for transmission of 100 MW power, the works on transmission lines is undergoing rapidly with facilities of 400 KV double circuit transmission lines. About 143 towers would be set up for 47 kilometer long transmission lines up to South Comilla of Bangladesh.

About Rs 250 crore would be utilized to complete the transmission lines.

Earlier, while talking to TSECL MD Shyamal Roy and Power Minister Manik Dey confirmed that there are Rs. 100 crores of pending by Tripura govt. to the Plants based in Tripura.

Although Tripura Govt. gave lands to Palatana Plant, but due to this debt of crores, TSECL is filled with various problems.

The Centre in consultation with the Tripura government had decided to sell 100MW after the Bangladesh government allowed free transhipment of heavy turbines for the 726.6MW Palatana thermal power plant.

For power transmission and supply, 47km of power cable lines are being set up to connect Surjyamani Nagar in southern Agartala with southern part of Comilla town in Bangladesh. In Tripura, there will be 18km of transmission lines while the remaining 29km lines will be within Bangladesh. Altogether 143 transmission towers would be set up between Suryamoni Nagar and southern part of Comilla town. There will be 67 towers between Suryamoni Nagar and Kaiadepha area under Bishalgarh subdivision in Tripura near the Indo-Bangladesh border while the rest of the towers will be in the neighbouring country. Construction of 41 towers has been completed while work on remaining 26 towers in Tripura is in progress.

On the Bangladesh side, construction of the 76 towers is also nearing completion, according to reports available with the corporation.

In Tripura, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited is laying the transmission lines while in the neighbouring country a local company is carrying out the work.

However, within all these, what the public of Tripura got after all? It seems that Tripura has many power plants, but this state is one of the most sufferers from load-shedding. Although Tripura Govt. gave land to Palatana Power Plant, and kept on blaming this plant for insufficient power supplying to state, but in reality via Palatana OTPC Plant neighbouring country is going to have the profit, and unfortunately Tripura is still in darkness of frequent load-shedding.

Now question arises, whether Tripura is under such huge debts, then how Manik Sarkar will fulfill his “Empty-Promises”?
