AGARTALA, Nov 29 (TIWN): Agartala Municipal Corporation where nominated for the Skoch Order of Merit award 2015 for successful implementation of LED Lights, on the other hand after few day of the installation of the LED lights some started flickering and some got damaged.

It has come to notice that, in many areas LED street lights have turned out of order within a few days of instalment of street lights under Agartala Municipal Corporation, leading the areas towards darkness in the night.

Just before the election, the Agartala Municipal Corporation has been nominated for the Skoch Order of Merit award 2015.

Much to the dismay of the citizens, roads are also severely marked by the lack of adequate lighting. Poor lighting on roads have accentuated the woes of the citizens by creating unsafe road conditions and heavily compromising road safety norms.

The AMC where rejoice over the nomination of the name, on the other hand the reality speaks something else. People of many areas had to suffer due to no street light on the road.

Talking to TIWN correspondent, AMC Mayor Dr. Prafullajit Sinha said that around 34, 000 LED lights were installed in the area spending Rs. 16 crore. Now the question arises among 34, 000 of LED light how many are working properly.

When asked about the maintenance process of the lights he said that a MoU has been signed with an agency for maintenance.

It is to be mentioned here that it has been more than six months that the LED lights were installed but maintenance process is yet to gear up.

Poor lightning on state roads has become a big concern. The lack of street lights have in numerous instances created unsafe road conditions and contributed to accidents. The localites alleged that within the few days of instalment of street lights, the lights have turned out of operation and the authority is not taking any initiative to repair the street lights of the areas.

However, the Left Rule Government can spend crores of rupees for the election campaign but when it comes about the Development of the state, the Manik’s rule Government criticizes the Central saying that they are not allotting any fund.

It may be recalled here that the Skoch Smart Technology Award 2015, India's highest independent civilian honour since 2003 for reducing power consumption without compromising on illumination that has saved a huge amount of power for the nation.
