AGARTALA, Nov 28 (TIWN): Tea plantation at a rise here in Tripura with the arrival of pre-winter season.
Across Tripura reportedly, tea plantation is in full swing and the beauty of greenery has touched state’s soil with the approach of winter season.
It’s to be mentioned here that the state Tripura, with the coming of winter and before the beginning of summer i.e. in the moderate weather is just perfect for tea plantation.
In various places workers can be found now busy in tea gardens and to shape them.
Tea cultivation considered one of the major plantations in this state. However, now-a-days with the rising of rubber plantation, Tripura has lost its glory in tea cultivation.
But in comparison to rubber plantation, tea-plantation is just the opposite, which is non-harmful for the environment. On the other hand rubber spoils not only the environment, but reportedly destroys the soil, which needs atleast 35 years to be recovered if once rubber plantation is done. Tripura govt. should motivate its people more in tea plantation as much as possible.
The agro-climatic conditions in Tripura are suitable for development of tea plantation. In fact, Tripura is categorized as a traditional tea-growing State. This makes Tripura the 5th largest, among the 14 tea-producing States, after Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu & Kerala. There is considerable scope to increase the productivity and area under tea plantation.
