Distribution of EVMs begins at Agartala

AGARTALA, Nov 26 (TIWN): With a few days left for the municipal election, the election authorities have started distribution of electronic voting machines (EVMs) to the sub divisional authorities from Thursday.

Following this, the EVMs for different municipalities were distributed from Umakanta school. These EVMs will be kept at secured centres till the Election Day.

After the declaration of election results, the Detachable Memory Modules will be kept at the treasury offices and the EVMs will be put in the boxes and kept at the godown of the corporation.

It is to be mentioned here that since Thursday morning the EVM dispatch process has began at Umakanta School. However the polling personnel are also getting ready with the election documents to conduct error free election.

Police officers and teachers of state schools will be allowed to cast their postal ballot on December 2, Election Department said. The postal ballot will continue till December 4.

Police officials, TSR, teachers and government officials who will be engaged in the election duty will be able to cast their vote through postal ballot on December 2 and till December 4.  Rest of the common people will cast their vote on December 9.

It is to be mentioned here that almost all the political parties here in Tripura have geared up for the upcoming Municipal election which is scheduled to be held on December 9.     

A total of 912 nomination papers were declared as valid for the upcoming civic elections. While the CPM has been able to field 298 candidates, the Congress fielded 277 candidates and 260 candidates by the BJP.

However, the Municipal election will held on December 9 and the counting will be conducted on December 12.

State chief election commissioner told reporters here that counting of votes for 5 lakhs, 37 thousand, and 986 voters would take place onDecember 12.  Among them 2 lakhs, 69 thousands and 214 are male voters and 2 lakhs, 68 thousands and 754 are female voters.
